In a shocking turn of events, five U.S. states\u2014Michigan, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota\u2014have introduced resolutions urging the Supreme Court to overturn <em>Obergefell v. Hodges<\/em>, the 2015 ruling that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leading the charge is <strong>Michigan State Representative Joshua Schriver<\/strong>, a far-right politician who describes himself as <em>\u201cMichigan\u2019s most conservative state representative.\u201d<\/em> He recently introduced a resolution titled the <em>Resolution to Restore Marriage<\/em>, claiming that <em>Obergefell<\/em> is <em>\u201cat odds with the sanctity of marriage, the Michigan Constitution, and the principles upon which the country was established.\u201d<\/em> He also argues that the ruling has led to <em>\u201cincreased instances of religious persecution\u201d<\/em>.
