In 2026, that city is Brussels \u2013 and Various Voices is ready to transform it into a vibrant, choral-powered celebration of LGBTQI+ lives, politics, and joy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a-festival-thats-been-queering-europe-since-1985\">A festival that\u2019s been queering Europe since 1985<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ket.brussels\/en\/2026\/02\/22\/sing-out-for-solidarity-a-musical-prelude-to-the-various-voices-festival\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/ket.brussels\/en\/2026\/02\/22\/sing-out-for-solidarity-a-musical-prelude-to-the-various-voices-festival\/\">Various Voices is the European festival that has been bringing LGBTQI+ choirs together since 1985<\/a>, every four years in a different city. Supported and overseen by\u00a0<strong>LEGATO \u2013 the European Federation of LGBTQI+ Choirs<\/strong>, it started in Cologne with just four choirs from four countries and has since grown into a major international event. The last edition gathered\u00a0<strong>110 choirs and 3,500 singers from 19 countries<\/strong>\u00a0in Bologna \u2013 proof that queer choral culture is loud, proud, and thriving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ket.brussels\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=51480&amp;action=edit\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/ket.brussels\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=51480&amp;action=edit\">More than a concert programme, Various Voices is described as a\u00a0<strong>musical home<\/strong>,<\/a> a platform for connection and inspiration, where new friendships are made and queer culture is proudly celebrated. (The Fabulous Queer Choir)<\/strong>&nbsp;as the official host choir. Founded in 2018, Sing Out Brussels! is a community choir that puts every member\u2019s identity at the centre, grounded in values of&nbsp;<strong>kindness, freedom, transparency, and solidarity<\/strong>. The choir mirrors Brussels\u2019 international identity, with members from more than 20 countries and who speak 15 different languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To clearly distinguish the festival from the choir\u2019s other projects, a dedicated non-profit association,&nbsp;<strong>Various Voices Brussels 2026 ASBL<\/strong>, was created in 2022. The festival is organised by an&nbsp;<strong>all-volunteer team<\/strong>, made up of members of Sing Out Brussels!, who drive the project with strong values: advocacy, creativity, inclusion, sustainability, joy, openness, interaction, solidarity, and diversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sing Out Brussels! info:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/various-voices.be\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/various-voices.be\/about-us\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Various Voices Documentary\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/E_ASZTRLIkA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-volunteers-turning-brussels-into-a-queer-chora\">The volunteers turning Brussels into a queer choral garden<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Behind the scenes, an impressive crew of volunteers is building the festival as a safe, joyful, and radically inclusive space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Marina Belotti<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Treasurer and one of the people who wrote the bid for the 2026 festival during the pandemic, she describes the project as turning \u201cthe margins of the norm into vibrant gardens for our communities\u201d and hopes Brussels will feel like a garden where everyone can be themselves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Christophe Cordier<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Deeply moved by his first Various Voices in Dublin in 2014, he now devotes his event, project management and communication skills to making the Brussels edition a dream come true for the community.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Elli Tessier<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 First joined Various Voices in Bologna and now coordinates the\u00a0<strong>Festival Village<\/strong>, guided by inclusivity, accessibility, and sustainability, and committed as a trans person to a festival where every letter of LGBTQI+ truly has its place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Walid Aissaoui<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A tourist guide born and raised in Brussels, passionate about showing visitors surprising corners of the city, he focuses on partnerships with the City of Brussels so choirs can sing in unusual venues, and has experienced Various Voices with three different choirs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Damien Wauters<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A pianist and music lover who has attended three editions of Various Voices, he now uses his \u201cvoice of wisdom\u201d as a young retiree, keeping an eye on the budget and supporting key decisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Stefano Abruzzini<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A retired statistician who manages the festival registration platform INtegra, answering queries, fixing bugs, and preparing data reports, with a passion for using statistics to highlight diversity rather than hide it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These stories show how deeply the festival is rooted in queer lived experience, community care, and a shared desire to build a safer, more joyful world through music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Introducing Various Voices Brussels 2026\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mMa97Ph9DUg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"culture-professionals-powering-the-stage\">Culture professionals powering the stage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Various Voices Brussels 2026 also relies on experienced professionals from the cultural world to make sure the festival not only feels good, but sounds and looks incredible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Simon Paco<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Actor, performer and costume designer, they are the\u00a0<strong>artistic director<\/strong>\u00a0of the festival. They have directed productions such as\u00a0<em>Antigone(s)<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Sunset Boulevard<\/em>,\u00a0<em>My Fair Lady<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Elisabeth<\/em>, and more, and previously served as artistic director of Sing Out Brussels! before joining Various Voices to actively contribute to a large-scale LGBTQIA+ project.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Emily Allison<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Jazz singer, composer and arranger, she is the\u00a0<strong>music director<\/strong>\u00a0of the festival.
