Brussels is getting a Pride glow\u2011up this year \u2013 literally. With\u00a0Brussels Rainbow City Light, the capital is turning some of its most iconic spots into a giant open\u2011air light installation to mark\u00a030 years of Brussels Pride\u00a0and the 2026 theme,\u00a0\u201cWhen Times Get Darker, We Shine Brighter.\u201d\u00a0From early May, the city centre becomes a night\u2011time rainbow route, inviting everyone to look up, slow down and see familiar places in a different light.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is part of the wider Brussels Pride 2026<\/strong> programme and runs alongside Pride Week and the big march on 16 May<\/strong>, when more than 200,000 people are expected in town. It\u2019s a way of stretching Pride beyond one Saturday, making the city itself carry the colours and messages of the LGBTQIA+ community days before and after the parade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Pride route written in light<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Brussels Rainbow City Light spreads across several key locations in the city centre, turning the traditional Pride axis into a visual trail. Along the route,\u00a0around 180 rainbow flags<\/strong>\u00a0are installed from early May, creating a continuous line of colour that runs through the streets used by the Pride March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some buildings get a special treatment. The Bourse<\/strong> features dynamic illuminated displays on its six columns, transforming the former stock exchange into a glowing backdrop for the Pride crowds passing by. The La Monnaie<\/strong> fa\u00e7ade hosts its own light show<\/strong>, adding another layer of symbolism to one of Brussels\u2019 major cultural institutions. In Rue du March\u00e9 au Charbon<\/strong> \u2013 at the heart of the Rainbow Village \u2013 a canopy of rainbow\u2011coloured garlands hangs overhead, turning one of the city\u2019s queerest streets into a permanent celebration.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Mont des Arts<\/strong>, where the Pride Village and main stage are set up, an XXL \u201cPRIDE 30\u201d<\/strong> structure anchors the whole project, making the anniversary visible from afar. For locals, Brussels Rainbow City Light also offers a different way of experiencing Pride. You don\u2019t have to be in the middle of the march or on the dancefloor to feel included \u2013 you can walk under the garlands of March\u00e9 au Charbon on a weeknight, pass by the Bourse after work, or cross Mont des Arts in the evening and still feel that Pride is present. It\u2019s a quieter, but no less political, form of visibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
