This summer, the Bruxellons Festival is gearing up to present two extraordinary musical premieres, each promising to dazzle audiences with gripping stories, stunning performances, and unforgettable music. Whether you’re a fan of classic romance with a twist or intrigued by the mysteries of Hollywood’s most iconic star, there’s something for everyone under the festival’s magical lights.
Rebecca: A World Premiere in French in the Courtyard
Prepare to be swept away by Rebecca, a romantic, suspenseful, and utterly captivating musical based on the famous novel by Daphne du Maurier and the legendary Alfred Hitchcock film. With music and lyrics by the acclaimed duo Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay—the creative minds behind the international smash hit Elisabeth—this production promises to be a theatrical highlight.
Set against the dramatic backdrop of Manderley, a grand estate in Cornwall, the story follows Maxim de Winter, a wealthy widower, and his new bride, known simply as “Je.” Their whirlwind romance in Monte-Carlo and Venice turns complicated as they return to Manderley, where the shadow of Maxim’s first wife, Rebecca, looms large. The new Mrs. de Winter must navigate the mysterious influence of the housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers, and uncover the secrets that bind the household in Rebecca’s spell.
Since its world premiere in 2006, Rebecca has enchanted over 2.7 million spectators across 14 countries and 11 languages. Now, Bruxellons is honored to host the world premiere of the French-language version at Château du Karreveld in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. With 25 performances scheduled, this is your chance to experience “a dream show” (Variety) and “one of the greatest triumphs of the musical stage in recent years” (Kurier).
Goodbye Norma Jeane: A World Premiere in French in the Barn
For those who love a good mystery and a touch of Hollywood glamour, Goodbye Norma Jeane is not to be missed. This original musical, presented in French for the first time, explores the enigmatic last night of Marilyn Monroe and the secretive life of the woman behind the legend.
The story begins in 1988, when a young fan visits a tranquil country home in England and meets Jane Edwards, a seemingly content 62-year-old woman. But the visitor is convinced she is actually Norma Jeane Baker—the real person behind the Marilyn Monroe persona, believed to have died 26 years earlier. As Jane shares her story, audiences are taken on a journey through the glitz, deception, and heartbreak of Hollywood, witnessing the transformation of Norma Jeane into the icon the world adored.
With music by Allard Blom and Sam Verhoeven, and a French translation by Stéphane Laporte, Goodbye Norma Jeane is “a delight for the eyes and ears” (Musicalvibes) and a show where “the boundary between fiction and reality disappears” (Musicalsites). Over 15 performances, this musical offers a poignant ode to happiness—and the realization that it isn’t always found where we expect.
Why You Shouldn’t Miss These Shows
Les deux Rebecca et Goodbye Norma Jeane are more than just musicals—they’re immersive experiences that blend romance, suspense, and deep emotional storytelling. With world-class creative teams, international acclaim, and now, world premieres in French, these productions are set to make Bruxellons Festival a must-attend event for theater lovers and newcomers alike.
