After Hungary, now Greece. Another European country where the far right wants to abolish Pride.
Kyriakos Velopoulos, leader of the ultra-conservative party Greek Solution, declared in parliament that if his party comes to power, it will ban Athens Pride—following the anti-LGBTQ+ example of Hungary’s government.
But Athens Pride isn’t backing down. Their message is loud and clear: “Our lives and identities cannot be abolished. Our pride will not be erased. Fascism will not win.”
For 20 years, Athens Pride has been a beacon for equality and freedom in Greece. No threat can erase the decades of struggle and joy carried in every march, every flag, every kiss in the street.
Brussels, and queers across Europe, must show solidarity. Because an attack on one Pride is an attack on us all
