Founded in 1977, SchwuZ has long held a central place in Berlin\u2019s queer and nightlife scenes, known for its inclusive ethos and sprawling 1,600-square-meter industrial venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The closure comes after months of financial struggle. Earlier this year, management filed for bankruptcy protection as costs soared. Despite a rallying cry \u2014 \u201cWe stay if you stay\u201d \u2014 the campaign gathered just over&nbsp;<strong>\u20ac52,000<\/strong>&nbsp;in pledges. Efforts to attract investors also failed, the club said in its statement: \u201cAfter intensive discussions, no party could be found willing or able to take over the club.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Economic Pressures on Berlin\u2019s Nightlife<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SchwuZ\u2019s closure underscores a wider crisis for Berlin\u2019s world-famous nightlife. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, dozens of clubs \u2014 including&nbsp;<strong>Griessm\u00fchle<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Remise<\/strong>et&nbsp;<strong>Watergate<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 have shuttered or downsized due to rising rents, tightened zoning rules, and changing nightlife habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/clubcommission.de\/\">Berlin Clubkommission<\/a>, which represents over 200 venues, as many as&nbsp;<strong>40 clubs<\/strong>&nbsp;have closed in the last five years.
