Based in Brussels, L-Tour is a pioneering non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the often-overlooked history—“herstory” and history—of the city’s LGBTI+ communities. Founded as a lesbian association, L-Tour has become a key player in documenting and promoting the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and intersex experiences through guided urban walks, cultural activities, and educational events.
Revisiting Brussels through a queer lens
L-Tour’s signature activity is its “Lesbian and Rainbow Tours”, immersive walking routes through Brussels that highlight significant places, personalities, and movements linked to local queer history. Each tour offers a unique perspective: participants discover sites tied to lesbian activism, historical meeting places, and stories of artists, writers, and collectives that shaped the community over decades.
The initiative seeks to make this cultural heritage accessible not only to the queer community but also to the wider public, emphasizing inclusion and awareness. The tours are conducted in a friendly and educational atmosphere, often blending personal anecdotes with broader social contexts.
More than tours: community and learning
Beyond city walks, L-Tour encourages encounters and reflection through debates, training sessions, and large-scale events. These activities foster dialogue on gender, identity, and equality while providing opportunities for collaboration among activists, researchers, and cultural institutions.
Through its dynamic blend of memory work and community engagement, the association plays an essential role in promoting visibility and preserving the collective memory of Brussels’ LGBTI+ life.
