In a soaring tribute to Belgian creativity, Brussels Airlines has just unveiled its latest “Belgian Icon” — a stunning Airbus A320 wrapped in an elegant homage to the Atomium. Designed by architect Thomas Faes, the aircraft celebrates one of the nation’s most recognizable symbols with style and flair.
After a national design competition that drew over 900 entries, the Atomium emerged as the people’s favorite. The final design, selected by a jury featuring Belgian icons like Sandra Kim and Philippe Geluck, beautifully captures the monument’s futuristic form and timeless appeal. “It’s a dream come true,” said Faes, whose passion for the Atomium began in childhood.
Painted with over 400 liters of color and crafted with 2,400 hours of meticulous artistry, the aircraft now carries Belgium’s spirit of innovation across Europe and beyond. Inside, passengers are greeted by a curated journey through the Atomium’s history—from its 1958 debut to present-day snapshots.
“Atomium” joins a dazzling fleet of themed planes including tributes to Tintin, Tomorrowland, and the Red Devils. But this one? It might just be the most iconic yet.
From the skies to our hearts, the Atomium now flies.
