Cynthia Nixon, Sex and the City star and longtime LGBTQ+ activist, delivered a powerful speech in support of her trans son and the community at a rally in New York on February 3. The demonstration, organized by the Democratic Socialists of America, protested the latest attack on gender-affirming care in the U.S.
Since returning to the White House, Donald Trump has ramped up his assault on trans rights. On January 28, he signed an executive order aimed at restricting gender-affirming care for anyone under 19. While not legally binding, the order has already led some hospitals to halt treatments, leaving trans youth without essential medical care.
The backlash has been swift. Protesters, LGBTQIA+ organizations, and public figures gathered outside NYU Langone Health in Manhattan, demanding that hospitals continue to provide life-saving care. Nixon, whose son is trans, took the stage with a heartfelt plea: "We cannot stay silent while our children are denied the care they need to survive.”
Her words carry weight far beyond the U.S. As trans rights face increasing threats worldwide, global solidarity is more urgent than ever.
