Robin Campillo, the acclaimed director behind 120 Beats Per Minute, returns to the spotlight—this time bringing to life Enzo, a project originally conceived by Laurent Cantet. After Cantet’s passing in 2024, Campillo stepped up to complete the film, honoring the vision of his late friend.
At the heart of the story is Enzo, a 16-year-old apprentice bricklayer living in La Ciotat. Like many teenagers, Enzo is searching for his place in the world. His father pushes him toward higher education, envisioning a future filled with books and diplomas. But Enzo feels stifled by the comfortable yet confining walls of the family villa. He longs for something different—something real.
Enter Vlad, a Ukrainian colleague on the construction site. Through their daily work and growing friendship, Enzo discovers new perspectives on life, ambition, and what it means to build a future—literally and figuratively. The film explores the tensions between parental expectations and personal aspirations, all set against the vibrant, sun-drenched backdrop of southern France.
With its tender approach to adolescence and its authentic portrayal of working-class life, Enzo promises to be a touching tribute to both its central character and the late Laurent Cantet. Audiences can look forward to a story that is as much about building houses as it is about building dreams.
