Belgian Drag Monarch: Belgium Is Looking for Its Queen (or King, or Sovereign)

The Belgian drag scene has found itself a new throne. Produced by two alumni of Drag Race Belgique, the Belgian Drag Monarch competition promises to unveil the next big name in drag performance in our corner of the world. And the next stop is 26 April at Flash Club — you don’t want to miss this.

This is the project the community was waiting for without quite knowing it. Edna Sorgelsen and Chloé Clarke, both brought into the spotlight by Drag Race Belgique on RTBF, have channelled their energy and expertise into a clear ambition: to create a drag competition rooted in the reality of the Belgian scene — accessible, spectacular, and deeply community-driven. Welcome to Belgian Drag Monarch.

The concept is as simple as it is exciting: eighteen artists split across three semi-finals, each structured around three challenges — a themed look, a Q&A round, and a free performance. The jury selects one finalist per evening; the audience votes for their favourite. Two paths to the grand finale, two ways to win the crowd’s heart.

The first semi-final, held on 29 March, launched the adventure to resounding success. Ruby On the Nail, Cleo Victoire, Mr Tricki, Mallow, Cédric Orban & Pierre Drye, Katastrofa, So Fierce, La Guida and Néon Noire opened the show with a generosity and creativity that set Flash Club ablaze. The Belgian drag scene, in all its diversity, was absolutely there for it.

Now it’s time for the second semi-final, on 26 April. From 7 pm to 10 pm, Choriza May, Mindy Vine, Levo Evolove, Chéri·e Chapstick, Hugues Hamelynck, La Voisine, Startruck Darkness, Haas and Kris Kardiaque will take the Flash Club stage and give it everything they’ve got. Nine different worlds, one crown within reach of a stiletto — or a boot, or a sneaker. Every style has its place here.

The grand finale, scheduled for 7 October, will bring together the finalists from all three semi-finals before a prestigious jury: Nicky Doll, Alvilda and Drag Couenne. What’s at stake? Two thousand euros, artistic contracts with Panty On, La Dimanche, Hessenhuys and Flash, and above all an unprecedented platform on the Belgian drag scene. A proper launchpad.
