Met de bekendmaking van de genomineerden voor de Academy Awards is het spannend om te zien dat Close - een film van Lukas Dhont - is genomineerd in de categorie Beste Internationale Film.
Close onderzoekt de intieme vriendschap tussen twee 13-jarige jongens.
De film ging in première op het filmfestival van Cannes, waar hij werd bekroond met de Grand Prix.
Naast de Belgische inzending zijn er ook films uit Duitsland, Argentinië, Polen en Ierland die meedingen naar de Oscar voor Beste Internationale Film.
De winnaars worden op 12 maart bekendgemaakt.
