Until May 28, visitors to the Musées et art centers Brussels Ouderenplatform vzw (BOp) can experience a thought-provoking duo exhibition that shines a light on the visibility-and often invisibility-of LGBTQI+ seniors in elderly care.
Portraits and Paintings: Diverse Stories on Display
Adorning the walls of BOp’s welcoming space, this exhibition features striking photographs of the Rainbow Ambassadors, presented alongside paintings by Thomas Dielman. Created as part of an awareness-raising project, the exhibition aims to spark conversation about the (in)visibility of LGBTQI+ seniors and to make their experiences more widely understood and accepted.
Through ten powerful photographs, the reality of Rainbow Seniors is revealed in all its diversity: from lesbian grandmothers and leather-clad men to trans, bi, and intersex individuals, as well as people living with HIV. The message is clear: regardless of sexual orientation or identity, everyone has their place in the senior community.

Thomas Dielman: Artist, Author, Advocate
Thomas Dielman is not only a lawyer but also a talented artist and, recently, an author with his debut book “Het straatfeest.” While he has long expressed himself through painting and writing, this exhibition marks the first time he openly shares his identity as a gay man through his art in a public setting.
Reflecting on the invitation from BOp, Dielman shared, “I was surprised by the request. It made me think. Yes, I am homosexual. I don’t hide it, but I don’t flaunt it either. Still, it’s an important part of who I am. So yes: it’s really great that I now get to show this part of myself as well.”

Don’t Miss This Important Exhibition
This duo exhibition offers a rare and honest look at the lives of LGBTQI+ seniors, celebrating their stories and fostering greater visibility and acceptance. Visit BOp before May 28 to experience these moving works and join the conversation about diversity and inclusion in elderly care.
