For over a decade, Straffe Ketten has been more than just a rugby team in Brussels; it’s been a beacon of inclusivity and diversity. From a challenging period in 2016, the team has rebounded to now boast 80 active members, symbolizing strength and resilience.
A Melting Pot of Players
Straffe Ketten mirrors the vibrant diversity of Brussels, with a third of its players speaking French, another third Dutch, and the remaining from various corners of the globe. The team stands as a testament to inclusivity, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds and skill levels, many of whom had never played rugby before joining.

Tournament Participation and Training
While Straffe Ketten does not compete in the traditional Belgian championship, it actively participates in international tournaments organized by International Gay Rugby. The team engages in 8-9 games annually with Belgian and foreign inclusive teams, ensuring rigorous preparation and skill enhancement.
Collaboration with Belgian Rugby Federation
As a proud member of the Belgian Rugby Federation, Straffe Ketten is at the forefront of advocating for inclusivity in rugby, especially concerning transgender players. The team’s involvement goes beyond playing; two of its members are national-level referees in the Belgian championship.

Promoting Inclusivity in Sports
Straffe Ketten’s commitment to inclusivity extends to organizing open sessions annually, welcoming new players and fostering a supportive community. Affiliated with the Rainbow House, the team’s activities and media presence have made a significant impact, making Straffe Ketten a well-known name among Belgian rugby clubs.
Vision for the Future
The team’s primary goal is sustainability and independence, alongside championing the rights and presence of transgender individuals in rugby. Through continuous effort and advocacy, Straffe Ketten aims to be a force for positive change in sports.
