A well know face for the Brussels queer community, CHAiLD, could lead Luxembourg’s Eurovision return. After a hiatus of more than three decades, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is set to make a triumphant return to the Eurovision stage in 2024. The small yet culturally rich nation has officially unveiled the 8 candidates who will compete for the chance to represent Luxembourg in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, scheduled to take place in Sweden this May.
For those who remember the last time Luxembourg graced Eurovision in 1993, the anticipation surrounding the national selection, known as the Luxembourg Song Contest, is nothing short of palpable. The candidates, a mix of fresh faces and seasoned talents, are ready to bring their A-game to Malmö and showcase the diverse musical landscape of the Grand Duchy.
Among the contenders stands CHAiLD, a familiar name to the LGBTQIA+ community in Brussels. This 25-year-old artist, who had previously collaborated with Maz Univerze on the track “Night Call,” is now making a solo comeback. Despite residing in Brussels, CHAiLD’s electro-pop style, infused with a melancholic touch, has already gained recognition in his home country, Luxembourg.
In 2019, CHAiLD emerged as a powerful voice for queer youth, winning the Screaming Fields Festival and kickstarting a career that has seen the release of multiple tracks and the debut EP, “Urgent Care,” which dropped last spring, featuring the eponymous track. The song he will choose to take part in the national selection will be revealed in January. The results will be known on the day of the event on January 27th.
CHAiLD is a generational voice for queer youth. His unique style and unwavering commitment to representing the LGBTQIA+ community align seamlessly with the values of inclusivity and diversity championed by Eurovision. We hope for him to become the selected candidate and see him compete next to Mustii, our Belgian contestant.
