Launched in 2017 by Brussels Environment, the Guinguettes Barc are seasonal open-air bars and community spaces that bring life to several parks across the Brussels region each spring and summer. Inspired by the French tradition of guinguettes-casual outdoor venues for drinks, food, and dancing-these pop-up establishments are designed to foster neighborhood gatherings and social connections in the heart of nature.
Each year, Guinguettes Barc expands its presence, with locations such as Henri in Georges Henri Park, Maurice in Cinquantenaire Park, Emile in Duden Park, Fabiola in Roi Baudouin Park, André in Laeken Park, and Vincent in Bon Pasteur Park opening progressively throughout May. The names of each guinguette are chosen to reflect a connection to their host park, such as Fabiola referencing Queen Fabiola at Roi Baudouin Park.
The guinguettes offer a variety of activities for all ages, including creative workshops, plant swaps, acoustic concerts, dance classes, and pétanque tournaments. New this year are bike repair stations and repair cafés, supporting active mobility and sustainability.
Committed to eco-friendly practices, Barc prioritizes organic, local products and works with regional suppliers. Deliveries are made using cargo bikes in partnership with the Urbike cooperative, and efforts are made to minimize waste through reusable materials and recycling.
With their friendly atmosphere, responsible cuisine, and diverse outdoor events, the Guinguettes Barc have become a beloved part of Brussels’ summer life, continuing to grow and innovate each season.
