From 17 January till 24 January 2024, Forbidden Colours organizes its third queer art charity auction with 24 artworks donated by artists and galleries. The auction, organized by Art22 Gallery under the patronage of Antenor, will take place online on drout.com. Every euro raised goes directly to supporting the work of Forbidden Colours as none of our trusted partners charge any fees.
A public viewing of the artworks is organized in Brussels at Art22 Gallery – Place du Jeu de Balle 67 – on Wednesday 17 January between 6-9pm. Everyone is welcome to come to view the art, meet the Forbidden Colours’ team and drink a glass to more human rights and democracy in Europe.
The auction catalog features 24 artworks from international contemporary artists such as Banksy, Jeff Koons, Delphine de Saxe-Cobourg, Antoine Moulinard, Eric Croes, Jean Bosphore or Flor Marrapodi. The auction will open on 17 January and participants will be able to bet online on the artworks till Wednesday 24 January at 8pm.
Forbidden Colours is a Belgian NGO focusing on delivering human rights and democracy for LGBTIQ+ people in Europe. The work of the organization targets countries where LGBTIQ+ communities are scapegoated by autocratic or illiberal governments.
In 2023, Forbidden Colours convinced 16 EU Member States to join the European Commission in bringing Hungary in front of the Court of Justice of the EU for its ‘anti-LGBT propaganda law’ adopted in 2021. The ruling of what has now become the largest human rights’ case brought in front of the Court of Justice of the EU should take place in 2024.
Forbidden Colours also coordinates the United4Diversity initiative bringing together a wide range of stakeholders to address the threats posed by the so-called ‘anti-gender’ movements. Beyond its advocacy for the human rights of LGBTIQ+ people in Europe, Forbidden Colours supports local initiatives trying to secure and promote the human rights of LGBTIQ+ people in Europe.
