The 37th edition of Brussels’ Heritage Days (Journées du Patrimoine) will take place on Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st, 2025. This free festival, coordinated by Urban, invites thousands of visitors to explore the multifaceted legacy of Art Deco through the theme “Art Deco – Roaring Twenties, Crash Years”.
Event Overview
Heritage Days are celebrated across various locations in Brussels, offering open access to both well-known and hidden sites, with a focus this year on Art Deco’s rich heritage. The program will showcase buildings, façades, interiors, furniture, diverse collections, intangible heritage, and public spaces, emphasizing how the movement’s duality between past and future maintains its relevance in contemporary design.
Key Themes
- Art Deco Exploration: Moving beyond aesthetics and luxury, the event explores urban, architectural, sociological, and human dimensions of the movement.
- Diversity of Heritage: Experience tangible and intangible Art Deco heritage, including architecture, interiors, period furniture, collections, and living cultural practices.
- Inclusion & Colonial History: The event will confront questions of gender, inclusion, and connections with colonial propaganda. It will also examine how Art Deco is currently restored and promoted, and its inspiration for today’s creators.
