On Saturday 4 July 2026, Mix’Cité in Verviers will host Independance Party Day, a free night of music, queer joy and collective release from 19:00 to 01:00. With Miss Freak Adèle on the decks, a bar on site and an open invitation to queer people, allies and the curious, the event promises a warm, defiant celebration in a city where these spaces still matter deeply.
A party with a message
The concept is playful, but the intention is serious. Borrowing from the imagery of Independence Day, the poster imagines a flying saucer over the White House, except this time the destructive ray is replaced by a rainbow beam. It is a smart visual reversal: our colours do not destroy, they illuminate.
That spirit runs through the whole event. Independance Party Day is presented as a queer, explosive, joyful and free night, a moment to dance, resist and celebrate all at once. In a regional city like Verviers, where queer events are still too rare, a party like this is never just a party. It is also a statement that visibility, pleasure and community belong here too.

Miss Freak Adèle lands in Verviers
The night’s soundtrack will be in the hands of Miss Freak Adèle, described as a queer DJ who has already energised crowds in Mons, Ath, Tournai, Chiny and Brussels before bringing her “spaceship” to Verviers. Online profiles also present her as a DJ, comedian, queer activist with years of experience behind the decks.
Her musical world mixes pop remixes, chanson and variety tracks that shaped generations, hidden gems and newer queer-friendly sounds, all woven into what the event describes as ethical, vibrant sets full of love, joy and resistance. That kind of playlist can do something special: it bridges ages, references and scenes, letting people arrive with different memories and still find themselves on the same floor.
A safe place in Verviers
The event takes place at Mix’Cité, Rue Laoureux 29 in Verviers, in the rear building, with free entry and a bar on site. The organisers insist on one key point: it is a safe place, and queer people, allies and curious visitors are all welcome.
That matters. In many smaller or mid-sized cities, queer people often have to travel to Liège, Brussels or elsewhere to find spaces where they can breathe a little easier. When a place in Verviers says clearly that everyone is welcome and that safety is part of the promise, it helps build something more durable than a one-night event: trust, local memory and the possibility of a scene.
More than a dancefloor
The wording of the invitation says it all: come dance, come shine, come live your independence. There is something powerful in framing queer nightlife not as escape only, but as independence — a temporary liberation from norms, fear, routine and isolation.
For KET readers in Brussels, this is also a reminder to look beyond the capital. Queer Belgium is not made only in big-city clubs and central institutions. It is also shaped in places like Verviers, by grassroots teams who create room for glitter, tenderness and loud music where it might not be expected. Nights like this may look light, but they carry a lot: joy, survival, and the stubborn belief that every city deserves its own rainbow beam.
