Garden Party de la Maison Arc-en-Ciel de Liège

Liège’s Maison Arc-en-Ciel is bringing back its annual Garden Party on Saturday 5 September 2026. From 4pm until 1am, the venue on Rue Hors-Château will host drag, DJs, a live queer choir, LGBTQIA+ archives and a Bear Belgium moment. More than a late-summer party, it is a chance to gather around queer culture, memory and visibility in the heart of Liège.

A community garden, not just a party

The annual Garden Party at Maison Arc-en-Ciel de Liège returns with a packed programme and a clear community focus. The event takes place at the organisation’s premises on Rue Hors-Château, a central address for LGBTQIA+ people and allies in the Liège area.

From the afternoon into the night, the programme moves between live performance, music, collective celebration and queer heritage. It is the kind of event where different generations and corners of the community can share the same space: regulars, newcomers, activists, artists, friends and allies.

For LGBTQIA+ people, especially at a time when queer visibility is still often contested, these local gatherings matter. They create room to be seen, meet others and enjoy culture without having to explain or minimise who you are.

Drag, DJs and the Queerale

Expect an energetic mix of drag performances and DJ sets throughout the evening. The Garden Party also welcomes a live performance by the Queerale of Maison Arc-en-Ciel de Liège, bringing choral voices and queer expression into the line-up.

A drag reading by Unique en son Genre adds another layer to the programme. Drag has long been a space for storytelling, play, political expression and chosen-family energy. In this setting, it is not simply entertainment: it is part of a wider celebration of queer creativity and self-determined representation.

The organisers will also introduce the candidates for the Mr Bear Belgium election. The moment gives visibility to the Belgian bear community and its diverse forms of masculinity, identity and belonging.

Queer history has a place here

The party is also looking back. In collaboration with the Fonds Suzan Daniel, the event includes an exhibition of LGBTQIA+ archives.

That presence is significant. Queer histories have often been excluded from official collections or reduced to moments of crisis and conflict. Archives help preserve the lives, struggles, social spaces and cultural production of people who came before us. Bringing them into a festive community event connects today’s queer scenes with a longer Belgian history of resistance, care and collective organising.

In a programme filled with beats, drag and celebration, the exhibition offers a reminder: queer joy does not exist outside politics or history. It is also built through memory, visibility and the people who have made space for others.
