Kenne Perry: The Man Behind the Music

He doesn’t just play records — he creates moments. For nearly three decades, Kenne Perry has been a defining presence in Belgian and European nightlife, constantly reinventing himself while staying rooted in one core identity: a DJ who tells stories through sound.

“I never thought I’d become a DJ,” Perry admits, looking back on his debut in the late ’90s. “It just happened overnight.” Music had been an obsession since childhood, but the idea of performing came by chance — and then changed everything. In the mid-’90s club scene, when nightlife was an underground network of bars and dance basements, Perry stepped in with a style that was both instinctive and innovative. His early gigs quickly became a sensation, turning a small venue into one of the West European party scene’s hottest addresses.

“What people don’t realize,” he says, “is that it’s not about what you play, it’s about what you do with it.” That philosophy became his trademark.

From Brussels to Europe’s Gay Nightlife Icon

Five years after his first mix, Perry made his debut at one of Europe’s top clubs — a milestone that opened doors to countless guest appearances. By the early 2000s, he had become a resident DJ at a growing gay party in Brussels, which rapidly turned into a powerhouse of the LGBTQ+ nightlife scene.

In 2007, he joined the legendary La Demence team, a move that consolidated his reputation as one of the biggest names in European gay nightlife. But in true Kenne Perry fashion, he did it on his own terms. Instead of taking the spotlight on the main floor, he chose the small, overlooked bar on the top floor — a passage space few believed in. “It was more challenging,” he recalls. The risk paid off: his sets transformed that forgotten corner into a cult space, redefining the energy of the event for over a decade.

“The underdog position allowed me to experiment — with tempo, genres, even eras,” he says. That’s what made it magic.

New Names, New Directions

2007 also marked another turning point. Perry decided to rebrand, giving birth to LogiK Monkey, a name that would allow him to explore new sounds beyond the club mainstream. Weeks after launching this alias, he landed residencies at Green Komm in Germany and continued headlining La Demence — a dual success that solidified his international standing.

Then came D*FOG in 2019, a side project dedicated to house and disco — two genres that reflect Perry’s deeper musical roots. When the pandemic paused nightlife, he took the downtime to rethink and refine his multiple identities. That’s when DJ KennIth, his very first stage name, resurfaced — this time for limited, nostalgic events celebrating 80s and 90s Hi-NRG and Italo Disco.

And the experiments didn’t stop there. In 2021, he launched The Urban Funk Affair, revisiting R&B through a fresh, dancefloor-driven lens. “Every name tells a story,” he says. “They’re all parts of me, evolving with time.”

Looking Forward

Today, Kenne Perry stands as more than a DJ — he’s an architect of atmospheres, a storyteller moving through decades of sound. Whether under the spotlight or behind the scenes, his essence is the same: connection through rhythm.

“I don’t play music for people,” he concludes with a smile. “I play with them.”
