Rainbow Surf Retreats: Three Years of Waves, Connections, and Inclusivity

For three years, Rainbow Surf Retreats has provided a haven for LGBTQ+ surfers seeking connection, serenity, and freedom. Founded by former DJ Steven Redant and Canadian surfer Rich Overgaard, this project was born from a need to create spaces where people can truly be themselves, without fear of judgment. Today, this incredible journey continues to grow, carried forward by a supportive and passionate community.

A Place to Feel at Home

More than just a surf camp, Rainbow Surf Retreats is a family. Each retreat is designed as a welcoming pause where participants—whether beginners or experienced surfers—support one another and share much more than just waves. “Surfing gave me a new lease on life, and now I want to share that energy and joy with others,” says Steven Redant. “Our goal is to send our guests home happier, wiser, and more confident.

Growing Together: An Ambassador Program

To continue fostering these unique experiences, Rainbow Surf Retreats is inviting like-minded individuals to become ambassadors. Whether by co-hosting retreats or helping spread the word, everyone can contribute to growing this community and making it even more welcoming and diverse. “We are looking for passionate people who want to shape the future of our retreats and strengthen inclusivity within our community,” explains Steven.

Rainbow Surf Chix: A Space for Lesbiens and friends

This autumn, the first-ever retreat dedicated to women will take place. Co-hosted by FLINTA ambassadors, this retreat will offer a safe and supportive space to connect, share, and of course, enjoy the thrill of surfing. “In queer surf spaces, there’s more solidarity, laughter, and shared moments. You don’t have to hide who you are—you can lift each other up and celebrate together,” adds Rich Overgaard.

An Upcoming Retreat in Morocco, Centered on Connection

One of the most anticipated events of the year is the retreat in Imsouane, Morocco, from April 19 to 26, 2025. Nestled between the ocean and the mountains, this picturesque village is home to one of Africa’s longest waves. In a cozy villa overlooking the sea, days will be filled with surfing, sunshine, and meaningful connections—all set against a backdrop of belonging. “Imsouane is a magical place where we are welcomed with open arms. It’s the perfect location to learn how to surf and experience the unique energy that unites our community,” Steven shares enthusiastically.

Riding the Rainbow Wave

Each retreat is an opportunity to build connections, rediscover oneself, and fully embrace a passion for surfing in an environment where everyone is free to be themselves. “There is a real need for this community. People leave feeling prouder and happier to be who they truly are,” Steven concludes

Here, on the water, between laughter and sea spray, a family is built—wave after wave.
