Ensuring access to fair employment remains a major challenge for trans people. To shed light on this crucial subject, Genres Pluriels invites you to the conference “Keys to a Trans-Friendly Workplace”.
When: Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10:00 to 16:00 (welcome from 9:30)
Where: LGBTQIA+ Community Center of Grands Carmes, Rue des Grands Carmes 22, 1000 Brussels
Free entry – Registration required at contact@genrespluriels.be
For many trans people, a key concern during transition is “Will things go well with my employer and colleagues?” Access to, and especially retention of, employment is one of the pillars of social integration and economic independence.
Recent research, including Mathilde Woestyn’s study “Discriminations dues à la transidentité dans la relation de travail en Belgique”, confirms that trans employees in Belgium still face significant workplace discrimination. Notably, more diverse employment opportunities are available to individuals before social recognition of their gender identity.
This event will address:
- How can we create a virtuous circle for both trans people and their employers?
- What practical steps can help employers prevent transphobic discrimination and support inclusion?
- How should inappropriate or transphobic attitudes be sanctioned, and how can we all challenge our sector-specific biases?
The risks are real: without stable work and resources, trans people are more vulnerable to social exclusion and health issues.

The day’s program includes:
- State of play on transgender employment – Max Nisol, Genres Pluriels
- Opening address from Minister Yves Coppieters
- Insights from Mathilde Woestyn on workplace discrimination against trans people
- The importance of training – Sara Aguirre, ULB
- Experiences of inclusion in European institutions – Louison Duboz, Égalité
- Testimony from Marie at Infrabel
- Presentation of the new workplace support guide for trans employees – Audrey Aegerter, IEFH
- Conclusion by Max Nisol, Genres Pluriels
Join us to learn, share experiences, and help advance the cause of trans inclusion at work. Please spread this invitation widely. We look forward to welcoming you there!
