LGBTQIA+ Health Takes Center Stage in Brussels

From May 21 to 23, over 200 activists and professionals from across Europe will gather at the ULB Erasme campus in Brussels for the 2nd International LGBTQIA+ Health Conference, organized by Ex Aequo. This major event brings together experts, healthcare providers, researchers, and community leaders to share practices and strategies aimed at improving LGBTQIA+ health.

The conference focuses on exchanging best practices and innovative initiatives in community health for LGBTQIA+ people. Like its inaugural edition, it will unite stakeholders from community health organizations, healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, and LGBTQIA+ rights advocates to foster collaboration and dialogue. The three-day program is structured around three main themes:

  • Research for, with, and by community health services
  • Initiatives addressing the health needs of LGBTQIA+ people
  • Policies for sexual and gender minority health: challenges and opportunities

Participants will also have the opportunity to organize sessions on topics of their choice, encouraging a dynamic and inclusive agenda.

A highlight of this year’s conference is the launch of the LGBTQIA+ Health Manifesto. This advocacy document will be presented and adopted during the event, calling on policymakers, institutions, and stakeholders to take concrete actions to improve healthcare access, research, and policies for LGBTQIA+ communities. The manifesto aims to spotlight ongoing challenges-such as structural barriers, discrimination, and underfunding-while emphasizing the importance of community health initiatives, inclusive research, and supportive public policies.

Ex Aequo is also making the event more accessible by offering free registration to LGBTQIA+ volunteers, activists, and students, reinforcing its commitment to equity and inclusion within the community.

With this conference and the forthcoming manifesto, Brussels reaffirms its role as a hub for advancing LGBTQIA+ health and rights across Europe.
