Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira bring Repertório N.1 to Brussels

From 8 to 13 May 2026, Théâtre Les Tanneurs in Brussels will host Repertório N.1, the latest work by Brazilian artists Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira. The performance is part of Kunstenfestivaldesarts and is also listed in the official Visit Brussels agenda.

A choreographic act of self-defence

According to the programme note, Repertório N.1 asks how dance can become a form of self-defence. The piece draws on gesture codes used within Black and queer communities in Rio de Janeiro, turning movement into a language of recognition, safety and resistance.

A long-awaited first chapter

The work was conceived in 2018 as the first part of a trilogy, but it was not staged at the time because of the political climate under former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro. Pontes and Ferreira later created Repertório N.2 and Repertório N.3, and Brussels will now see the long-delayed first chapter of the cycle.

Body, vulnerability and protest

The performance is described as stripped back and intense: the artists appear naked, without music, surrounded by the audience. That formal simplicity places the body at the centre of the work, framing it as a site of protection, vulnerability and political expression.
