Belgian Drag Monarch’s second semi-final turned Flash Club into a queer coronation

Ket was at the second semi-final of Belgian Drag Monarch on Sunday 26 April in Brussels, and the room at Flash Club was exactly what a drag competition night should be: loud, generous, glamorous and fully sold on the show from the first number on. The crowd was clearly won over, the candidates were warm and likeable, and the jury brought just the right amount of sparkle, sharpness and credibility to make the evening feel both festive and serious.

The energy of the night also owed a lot to the two presenters, who were absolute queens of the night in top form, carrying the show with ease, wit and impeccable timing.

Their presence gave the evening a real sense of rhythm and helped keep everything moving between performances, announcements and reactions from an audience that was already very much on board.

What stood out most was the mix of styles and personalities on stage. Nine contestants were announced for this second semi-final, each bringing a different drag universe to the room, and the competition felt less like a hierarchy than a joyful collision of aesthetics, humour and ambition. That diversity is clearly part of the project’s appeal, and the audience responded to it with enthusiasm throughout the night.

If the first semi-final set the tone, this second one confirmed that Belgian Drag Monarch is building a scene, not just a contest. The format gives drag artists a proper platform, but it also creates a collective moment where people come to celebrate the craft, the performance and the joy of seeing drag treated as a central cultural event rather than a side attraction.

The next stop is already set: the third semi-final will take place on 7 June 2026, once again at Flash Club in Brussels. After a second round that left the room smiling, the race toward the grand finale in October is officially on.
